Introvert-Friendly Content Strategy that Honours Your Energetic Capacity

France, an introvert, at a bookstore.

“Instagram is dead.”

“I’m struggling with consistency on social media.”

“Feels like I’m talking to no one.”

Here are a few of the sentiments I kept seeing on Threads, and I can’t help but think how what was once a seemingly harmless avenue to express ourselves and connect with people, became a unit of measurement for one’s worth, be it a person or a business.

We’re too far gone from the era when sharing an image of you holding a coffee with a duck face is nothing but proof of life.

However, we can’t negate the fact that social media platforms are fundamental elements in marketing a brand. Sure, you can utilize word of mouth, but having a digital presence is a precursor to eligibility today. Not to mention, it speeds up your outreach.

“But I’m an introvert.”

Point taken. If you’re worried about the cutthroat competition taking a toll on you, there’s a way to create content without draining your energetic reserve.

It’s POSSIBLE to Customise a Content Strategy to Your Ideal lifestyle.

I00% of the time (I’ll say this with confidence.) social media drains us, because we’re forcing ourselves to perform and consume information that is not ideal for our lifestyle.

Unfortunately, some marketing gurus sell us the notion that, to be seen, we have to be constantly on. Suddenly, consistency is measured by how much screen time you can have in a day.

Stop regurgitating this. It is not for everyone, especially for us introverts or slow life enthusiasts. We can be successful in our own right, offline and online.

Here are the questions that you need to answer before plotting your Content Strategy:

  1. With where I am right now, how many hours in a day can I honestly dedicate to creating content and engaging?

  2. With that amount of time, what types of content are deemed fit?

  3. If I’m going to do XYZ, how many times can I post in a week without sacrificing quality?

  4. Do I want to be everywhere?

  5. Who are my target clients and what platforms do they use most often?

  6. Is it okay for me to grow slowly and organically? If not, am I ready to invest in ads or hiring a person who will do the heavy work?

  7. What expectations do I have in putting myself out there? If not met, am I willing to pivot?

Planning your content with intention is key — every post starts with thoughtful preparation.

If you’re done answering, proceed with the strategy. I usually start with in-depth market research and S.W.O.T. Analysis to set the foundation for Client Avatars.

After creating the avatars, I’m going to plot the Objectives and Key Performance Indicators. Having metrics will help you gauge if the tactics are working or not. Don’t be afraid of doing Math.

Identifying the Content Pillars will follow suit. This will help you create a much more cohesive messaging, and be more efficient in content ideation.

Pro tip: Educate, Entertain, and Sell are NOT content pillars – surprise!

They are too vague. Content Pillars SHOULD be specific themes meant to support every objective you listed. How in the world would you know what to post if you only have Entertain as a basis?

Example of Content Pillars for a B-Corp Perfume Brand:

  • Ingredient & Packaging Integrity Check

  • Employee BTS: What's it like working for an ethical company?

  • Our Perfumes as Mood Boards

See the difference? Being more specific with your content pillars will make content creation more efficient. I will die on this hill, no Introvert likes to waste time & energy.

Let’s recap the steps in creating your Introvert-friendly Content Strategy:

  1. Answer fundamental questions regarding the relationship you want to build with social media.

  2. Start your Content Strategy with Market Research & S.W.O.T. Analysis.

  3. Create your Client Avatar/s.

  4. Plot your Objectives & KPIs.

  5. Determine your Content Pillars.

After doing all of these, you can now ideate and fill your calendar with relevant content. The best part? You’ll feel safer and confident online, knowing that whatever you put out there is based on intentionality. You don’t have to follow others’ path for consistency or online success, you’re creating your own.

Good luck, embrace your flow, and have fun!
